Thai businesses stay on top of mobility tech at InnoTrans 2018

UP TO 3,062 train, transportation and related business from 61 countries are demonstrating their electro-mobility technologies as the massive trend is featured at InnoTrans 2018 in Berlin, Germany.

“We visit InnoTrans 2018 to find the best technology for developing our services and our business investment in the future,” said Chaisak Srisethanil, project and engineering director of Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc, in an interview as he visited InnoTrans 2018 with The Nation on Tuesday.
Chaisak praised the event for demonstrating widespread global innovations and technology related to train systems. The one-stop nature of the exhibition allows his company to learn about the technology and compare options, to discover which among the options best suit their current and future needs.
“We are interested in high-speed train technology,” he said. “We will join in the bidding, which opens in November this year, for a high-speed train linking three international airports. We area also interested in doing a light train system that will support our business when the government opens bidding for two new routes in Phuket-Phang Nga and Khon Kaen,” he said.
More than 400 innovations from the global rail sector are on display at InnoTrans 2018 from its opening on September 18 until September 21, with 146 innovations making their international debut at the tech fair. At the unique Outdoor Display, as well as on the Bus Display, trade visitors will be able to assess 155 vehicles and, in some cases, test-drive them too. At more than 62 per cent, foreign participation remains at its usual high level. During these four days in Berlin over 130,000 trade visitors from every continent are expected to attend.
Companies and institutions from a total of 61 countries are using InnoTrans 2018 to present new or improved products, systems and offers. All the global players from the railway world are here, along with 33 of the world’s most important industrial and technical associations from 17 countries. Around two-thirds of the exhibitors are from abroad, and in particular from France, Italy and China.
Christian Goke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH said in a press release on Tuesday that world-wide visitors to this 12th edition of InnoTrans will find it “more concentrated, more innovative, more informative … Once again, we have broken the previous record, set in 2016, and achieved our new best-ever figures for the number of exhibitors, vehicles on display and items making their first international appearance.”
Electro-mobility is a massive trend in transportation and also features widely at InnoTrans, both in the exhibition and in the outstanding supporting programme, Goke said.
He added that the main focus of the Dialogue Forum at the Palais am Funkturm will be on Railways 4.0, the digitisation of new mobility services and Innovation Pathways 4.0, as well as the future management and control system ERTMS. It takes place under the aegis of the DVF (German Transport Forum), VDV (Association of German Transport Companies), UNIFE (Association of the European Rail Industry) and VDB (German Railway Industry Association).
Bombardier Transportation's president Laurent Troger said that the company is proud to present its new brand identity and product design under its slogan, “Together we move”. Halfway through its five-year turnaround plan, this is a strategic next step in positioning the company for the future, he said.
At InnoTrans, Bombardier’s stand will leverage the latest digital technologies to illustrate how its high-performance mobility solutions have helped cites across the globe develop, said Troger.
A virtual reality exhibit promises visitors an immersive 360-degree journey in cities across the world, be it on the Bombardier Innovia monorail in Bangkok, a Bombardier Flexity tram in Zurich or a Movia C30 metro in Stockholm.
An interactive tool features Bombardier's full value chain and helps customers consider the advantages of a complete mobility solution, he said in a company media release, including options for signalling, components, services, as well as operations and maintenance.

InnoTrans 2018 is on until September 21, 2018 for trade visitors, and during September 22-23 for the general public. Trades have access to all indoor and outdoor areas, while the general public can browse the outdoor displays.
