Industry confidence index drops slightly

Thailand’s industry confidence index in September dropped by one point to 91.5 compared to August due to concerns about rising oil prices and the strengthening of the currency, Supant Mongkolsuthree, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries told a press conference yesterday.

Meanwhile, 183,191 new car units entered the market in September, or 3.72 per cent less compared to the same period last year, while 88,688 new cars were sold in the domestic market last month, or up 14.3 per cent from the same period last year. The export of 104,163 new cars in September showed a 13.67 per cent drop from the same period last year.

Thai Chamber of Commerce Confidence Index (TCC-CI) for September 2018 also dropped to 48.9 from 49.8 in August, due to concerns about the drop in the number of Chinese tourists and the US-China trade war having an impact on the country’s economy, the TCC Research Centre said.
