Thailand promotes AI and clean energy in US investor talks

Suphajee and PM Anutin meet US investors in New York to promote Thailand’s digital and clean energy sectors and reaffirm balanced US-China ties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun has joined Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in meetings with US investors and business leaders in New York to promote investment in Thailand.

Suphajee said on Wednesday (September 23) that the delegation had held discussions with executives from Bank of America, Microsoft and Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), alongside investors and senior representatives of leading US financial institutions. The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on the economic outlook, investment and Thailand’s future potential.

The discussions covered global economic and financial trends, including factors influencing investment decisions. The Thai delegation presented the country’s capabilities and policies aimed at creating an investment-friendly environment, while promoting cooperation with international businesses in the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, clean energy and workforce skills development.

Bank of America hosts investor meeting

Suphajee described the meetings as an important opportunity to build confidence and communicate Thailand’s potential to global investors.

Bank of America hosted a gathering involving more than 10 major US investment firms and funds interested in following Thailand’s policies and economic direction.

“Investors are interested in Thailand because the country’s economic performance and fundamentals have improved, including an upgrade to Thailand’s credit rating. The performance of the Thai capital market has also improved. This gives Thailand an opportunity to present its policies and development direction to investors,” Suphajee said.

Balanced relations with the US and China

Investors were particularly interested in Thailand’s policy towards the United States and China. The Thai delegation reaffirmed that it regarded both countries as major economic powers and important trading partners, with an approach centred on balanced relations and mutual benefit.

“We are not choosing one side over the other. We want to work with both countries on the basis of balanced relations and mutual benefit,” Suphajee said.

Energy transition and food security highlighted

Investors also asked about Thailand’s future policy direction, particularly how the country would adapt to changes in the global economy.

Anutin outlined plans for the energy transition, technological development and the digital economy, alongside efforts to strengthen food security, which the Thai delegation highlighted as an important national strength and opportunity.

Suphajee said the discussions helped explain Thailand’s policies and economic direction while allowing the government to hear directly from international investors and financial institutions.

Their perspectives would inform efforts to advance the Thai economy, trade and investment, while creating opportunities to attract foreign capital into industries capable of supporting the country’s long-term growth, she added.
