Thai gold falls 500 baht, bullion sells at 69,150 baht

Gold jewellery sells at 69,950 baht per baht-weight as Thailand’s opening prices erase Friday’s gains following a sharp global sell-off

Thai gold prices opened 500 baht lower on Saturday (September 5, 2026), reversing the previous day’s gain after stronger-than-expected US employment data fuelled expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate increase.

The Gold Traders Association’s first price announcement, issued at 9.04am, put the selling price of 96.5% gold bars at 69,150 baht per baht-weight. Gold jewellery of the same purity was selling at 69,950 baht, below the 70,000-baht level.

The opening decline erased Friday’s net increase of 500 baht. Domestic prices had been adjusted 19 times during that session.

International gold prices fell sharply on Friday as employment figures strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates sooner than previously anticipated.

Spot gold fell 2.2% to US$4,376.04 per ounce, putting it on course for a weekly decline of about 1%.

US gold futures for December delivery dropped 2.4% to US$4,428.80 per ounce. These were trading levels rather than confirmed closing prices.

The sell-off followed an earlier rally as expectations of a rate increase had eased.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ August employment report showed non-farm payroll growth accelerating more strongly than analysts had expected. Unemployment held at 4.1%, indicating continued labour-market resilience and reinforcing expectations of tighter monetary policy.
