Ex NSC boss assumes new position and takes leave

Thawil Plieansri, ex-secretary general of the National Security Council, took one-week's leave from Friday, after reporting in for his new position as an adviser to the prime minister.

Thawil, who was removed as the NSC chief with a Cabinet resolution on Tuesday, reported to work at the Government House at 8.40 am. Thawil said he reported to work with Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana and submitted his leave form.

"I have not taken annual leave for 20 years," Thawil told reporters.

Thawil said he would file a complaint with the Merit System Protection Commission to appeal against his transfer as soon as possible.

"If possible, I may file the complaint on Monday, September 12," Thawil said.

He said that Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung has made unfair comments about him, saying he had to be removed because he had been given the post improperly.

Thawil said he has been gradually promoted and had reached the pinnacle of the NSC because he had worked for the Council for 30 years. His promotion had not caused a problem to anyone.

Thawil said that Kowit had not yet assigned hin any responsibilities but he expected he would be assigned to work on security affairs.
