Flareup over a blocked registration number

A dispute between a Toyota dealer in Lampang and a car buyer over a problem with an NGV cylinder installation will be the first to be heard in a new Civil Court procedure dealing with consumer protection against automakers if a coming meeting fails to rea

In her complaint lodged publicly with Kom Chad Luek newspaper, Siyapha Phutthawong said she insisted on the Lampang dealer registering her new Altis with the local autoregistration office. But the office refused to do so after finding that the NGV was installed with the serial number blocked by a fastener, making registration officials unable to copy it.

The dealer initially proposed readjusting the cylinder to stop blocking the serial number, but the buyer did not allow this, saying that her Altis must be registered without the cylinder being moved or readjusted, for fear of losing the factory coverage for the cylinder. The woman, who bought the passenger sedan priced at Bt824,000 in cash, later contacted Toyota North and Toyota Thailand to manage what she wants, still on condition that the cylinder not be moved.

The matter was brought to the consumer protection office in Chiang Mai, and later to the provincial office of public prosecutors, but no compromise has been reached. The woman said she would lodge a complaint with the Civil Court hearing consumer protection cases if the next meeting fails to comply with her demand.
