The two tourists suffered minor injuries. They were identified as Jionata Bellkumba, 34, from Italy and Luk Loxyer, 30, from South Africa.
The Third Naval Forces received a distress signal from a sinking yacht at 9am. The yacht was hit by giant waves west of the Petra Islands National Park on the Andaman between Satun and Trang when it sent out an SOS.
The Third Naval Forces alerted the La-ngu naval base in Satun's La-ngu district. Lt Natthawut Tulaphan, a patrol vessel commander, and his crew were dispatched to rescue the two tourists. The two tourists were delivered to the Satun coast.
They said they had left Langawi, Malaysia, on their A-Qua yacht, returning to Phuket.
But their yacht was hit by three-metre waves, causing it to sink.
