One insurgent killed, another surrenders in shootout

One insurgent was killed and other surrendered during a gunfight with a combined force of police and army personnel in the restive southern province of Narathiwat on Monday.
The government force raided targeted areas in Ruso district early Monday on suspicion that members of the insurgent group Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) were hiding there, preparing to launch violent attacks.
As the authorities searched a house, the insurgents opened fire at them. The force counterattacked and the shootout lasted for about 10 minutes, ending when an insurgent identified later as Abdulromae Ha-rae, 31, shouted his surrender.
The body of another insurgent was found at the scene, and was identified as Ruslan Maneng, 30. An AK-47 assault rifle and cartridges were found near his body.
Security personnel searched another house and found explosive devices and traces of RKK members having stayed there, but they had left the building before the authorities arrived
Insurgents had already fled by the time a second house in the same district was searched. However, they left behind them a number of explosive circuits.
