TRCT backs call for amending lese majesty law

The Truth for Reconciliation Commission of Thailand Friday issued a statement backing the call for amending the lese majeste law on ground that the suppression of royal insults had been politicised to fuel the social divisions.
TRCT chairman Kanit na Nakorn reminded all sides that the debate on the issue seemed to have caused a greater confusion instead of sheding light on a solution.
Certain elements were invoking Article 112 of the Criminal Code for selfserving gains as royalists to fault their political opponets, he said. At the same time, the other side argued that Article 112 had stifled their freedom of expression, he added.
