Court to rule on Boonjong election claim

The Supreme Court's Election Cases Division will deliver a ruling today on Bhum Jai Thai Party MP Boonjong Wongtrairat.

Boonjong was accused by the Election Commission of violating election laws by taking part in a seminar organised by a Nakhon Ratchasima community development office with 300 eligible voters at a resort in Rayong before a by-election in Nakhon Ratchasima on December 12, 2010.
The MP said he would be at the court to hear the verdict.
“I am confident with the facts I gave to the EC subcommittee, which rejected the allegation against me before. The subcommittee found the complaint was filed before the electoral law went into effect.
“It also found that I was |not at the seminar as alleged,” he said
Boonjong – deputy interior minister at the time – was questioned about sponsoring the event. The law prohibits candidates from holding an entertainment event or offering a feast.
Boonjong, who won the by-election, is a Bhum Jai Thai Party executive, and the violation could lead to party dissolution.
