Charter debate to get an extra day

House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranont on Wednesday, the second day of charter debate, hinted that the session would likely be extended for an extra day and hoped the debate could be wrapped up before the Songkran Holiday on Friday.

“It is possible for the charter debate to run into Thursday as well,” he said.
Somsak said the regular House session, scheduled to take place tomorrow, will be cancelled in order to pave way for the charter debate to reach a conclusion.
The debate ran past midnight on Tuesday, wrapping at 1am Wednesday but only managed to pass the second reading of just three draft provisions of the charter amendment bill designed to form the Constitution Drafting Assembly.
Democrat MP Nipit Intarasombat said the debate should get two extra days.
The first day of debate passed three of 16 draft provisions, hence at this rate of work progress, one extra day would be insufficient, he said.
He said the debate should resume next week following the Songkran festivities.
