Pheu Thai upbeat to win Chiang Mai by-election

The ruling Pheu Thai Party is confident about winning in the Chiang Mai by-election, PM's Office Minister Woravat Auapinyakul said yesterday, allaying concerns about a repeat of the Pathum Thani defeat last week.

“I believe people continue to support and trust Pheu Thai Party,” he said.
Woravat explained that the red shirts and local residents would rally behind the Pheu Thai candidate should the ruling party decide to nominate Kasem Nimmolrat for the race.
He dismissed speculation that the red shirts were displeased with the Kasem candidacy even though former PM Thaksin Shinawatra’s sister, Yaowapha Wongsawat, had given the candidate her blessing.
He said the Pheu Thai executive board was still open to suggestions from all sides before finalising the decision next week. Woravat added that the defeat in Pathum Thani could be attributed to a miscommunication between the ruling party and its red-shirt allies, saying it would not happen again.
