CDA election to cost Bt2.5 billion

The Election Commission is estimating it will spend Bt2.5 billion in organising the poll to fill 77 seats in the Constitution Drafting Assembly, EC member Prapun Naigowit said on Friday.

The CDA election will cost the same as organising the last general election,” he said, noting that voting will take place nationwide.
Although the charter amendment bill, designed for the CDA formation, is still being debated in the second reading, the EC has already set up a preparedness panel for the CDA poll, he said.
The senatorial election rules will be adopted for the CDA poll and the campaigning will be limited to the nonpartisan line, he said.
With regard to the voting in the violenceplagued South, he said the EC was coordinating with the Internal Security Operations Command to ensure safety at polling stations.
