London Olympics torch relay gets underway in Ancient Olympia

Ancient Olympia, Greece - The torch relay for the 2012 London Olympics got underway on Thursday, with the sun's rays igniting the flame at the ancient Olympic stadium, the site of the first Olympics 2,800 years ago.
The first torchbearer, Greek world champion swimmer Spyros Gianniotis started the 1,800-mile journey through the country using 490 torchbearers.
It will then be handed to London organisers on May 17 in Athens'Panathiaic Stadium, where the first modern games were held in 1896. The London Games will be held from July 27 until August 12.//DPA
