Rights group: No culpability two years after Bangkok crackdown

Not one soldier or official has been held culpable for the violence in Bangkok street battles two years ago that left 102 people dead and 2,000 wounded, Human Rights Watch said Tuesday.

"Despite well-documented atrocities that took place in the full view of cameras and witnesses, no Thai soldier or official has been held accountable," said Brad Adams, Asia director for the NewYork-base human rights group.

The clashes between soldiers and demonstrators that stemmed from two months of anti-government protests was the worst political violence witnessed in decades in Thailand.

Human Rights Watch called for, at the least, a full disclosure of those culpable for the deaths to avoid similar bloodshed in thefuture.
"There is a perpetual generational cycle of impunity for people inpower in this county," Adams said.//DPA
