Sonthi says he proposes reconciliation bill for sake of peace

Former coup leader Gen Sonthi Boonyaratglin Monday was apparently cornered by a question from reporters why he is now leading an effort to create reconciliation between former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and opponents.

Parliament-beat reporters asked him whether he was undoing the works of the Council for National Security (CNS) or the 2006 coup makers with his works in the capacity as the chairman of the House committee on national reconciliation.
Sonthi and a group of coalition MPs have sponsored a reconciliation bill.
“Don’t say so. I have good intention.  At that time, the country was in crisis.  Now, I would like to ask who dares to create peace and order in the country. We want to introduce the people who dare to work for the peace and reconciliation,” Sonthi replied.
He said he did not want anything in return from his works except he would like to see the country have peace.
He cut short his interview and walked away from the reporters.
