2 policemen, 4 Muslim youths injured in M79 attack in Pattani

Insurgents fired an M79 grenade at a police checkpoint in Pattani late Sunday night, injuring two policemen and four Muslim youths, police said Monday.

The attack occurred at 10.10pm at a road checkpoint in front of Yarang police station.
Six policemen were manning the security checkpoint to deter attempts to smuggle illegal items.
Police said an unknown number of insurgents hiding behind the Tambon Yarang clinic fired the M79 grenade at the checkpoint. They added that the four youths were passing just as the attack occurred.
Two police officers suffered shrapnel wounds to their heads and torsos. They were identified as Pol Cpl Thawat Sarum 29, and Pol Cpl Bancha Sakulwong, 30.
The four Muslim youths were identified as Hasan Durasoh, 12, Muahamad Ridwanyaena, 11, Romli Lalo, 13, and Abdulazi Mani, 19.
Police checked the spot believed to be used by the insurgents to launch the grenade attack immediately after the explosion but found no one.
