Aon Benfield, one of the world’s leading reinsurance intermediary and full-service capital advisors, said the country was also the ninth-highest total claims from natural-disaster insurance (Bt327 billion) over the past three decades.
The rankings were mentioned at a discussion yesterday at Dhurakij Pundit University.
Japan topped the list of economic losses (Bt6.4 trillion) due to the 2011 tsunami, while the United States had the highest number of disasterrelated insurance claims due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Education agencies yesterday also discussed measures that can be taken to deal with disasters as well as the need to teach students how to take action in real situations.
They urged teachers to join forces with neighbouring communities to look for solutions and get their students to participate in the action.
