South Korea president-elect pledges stronger national security

Seoul - South Korean president-elect Park Geun Hye made national security her top priority Thursday as she called last week's rocket launch by North Korea a challenge to security in the region.

"North Korea's long-range missile launch symbolically showed how grave the security reality we face is," she said a day after winning election as South Korea's first female head of government.

The conservative politician, daughter of former dictator Park Chung Hee, said she planned to ring in a new era on the Korean Peninsula by strengthening national security and "trust-based diplomacy." //DPA
