LPG price for household maintained

Price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use would be maintained until end-May, pending for a study on subsidies for low-income earners.

The Energy Ministry earlier planned to lift the price on April 1, following the end of subsidies in LPG price for industrial use last year and an increase in the price for transport use earlier this year.
Energy Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal said that a sub-committee is working on a study. Primarily, those households consuming less than 90 units of electricity a month would be entitled to the subsidy. They cover 7.4 million households, including 241,207 in the Greater Bangkok area.
The subsidy will also entail street vendors nationwide. The number is being surveyed by Rajabhat University's network. The survey result is expected in the next two weeks, and the sub-committee should take a month to finalise the right subsidy format.
