Soldier abducted in Narathiwat is found shot to death

The body of a soldier who was abducted from his house in Narathiwat's Rusoh district on Monday, was found Wednesday morning in Bacho district Wednesday morning. The corpse's hands were tied and there were multiple gunshot wounds.

Police linked the abduction and the killing of Private Maela Tohlu to an ambush on February 13 in the province in which 16 suspected insurgents were ambushed and killed. Maela was part of the team.

His body was found at the roadside of a village in Tambon Palukasamor, police said, adding that a white cable line that was used to tie Maela’s wrists was also found in the February 13 raid.
His wife, Dareesoh Sorpee, told police said eight armed men, wearing militarystyle clothing, abducted her husband from his home in Rusoh district, on Monday.
Maela, 24, who had served at the army base in Ba Cho district that was raided by the insurgents on February 13, was visiting his home on vacation.
On Monday night, when Dareesoh went out to buy food, leaving Maela and her younger brother Yakariya, 20 at home, eight men on a pickup truck raided the house and abducted Maela at gunpoint, but left her brother unharmed.
Dareesoh insisted Maela had no conflict with anyone  but he had told her that he and fellow soldiers had been cautioned of an insurgent retaliation and rumours that insurgents aimed to kill 32 officials to avenge the 16 deaths.
