Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdith yesterday claimed Thailand ranked number one in the region in terms of being at risk of terrorist attack - and number five in the world - according to studies in England and the US.

Tarit cited a recent discussion with US FBI legal attache Daniel P Powers about Thailand being among top countries at risk because of its freedoms and its position as the region’s hub of terrorist movements. He said the latest Thai-FBI cooperation was to hunt down high-profile criminal Jason Derek Brown, who was among the top five on the FBI’s most wanted list and was reportedly lying low in Thailand.
The American fugitive was wanted for first-degree murder and armed robbery in Phoenix, Arizona in 2004 and the FBI has offered the Bt5.8 million reward for those who could provide information leading to Brown’s arrest.
