'Sixth Latitude' to help promote unity in South

The military-sponsored film "Sixth Latitude", which is aimed at promoting unity among Buddhists and Muslims in the restive deep South, will be ready for screening across the country soon.

The film was mostly shot in areas where attacks are a regular thing, and director Thanadol Nualsut as well as the cast said they were willing to take the risk for the sake of making the shots realistic.
Thanadol said viewers would also get to see how beautiful the region is.
“Sixth Latitude” tries to explain why people still choose to live in their home provinces despite the daily attacks and how Thais are unified despite the difference in religion. The film also tells the story of the two protagonists – a local Muslim woman and a Buddhist man from Bangkok.
The film, produced by UCI Media, is part of a project by Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) to promote unity among people in the South and explain how insurgents have been exploiting the different religious beliefs and culture.
“The project was partly funded by Isoc after UCI Media won a competition beating a number of movie-production firms,” Thanadol said. The film, due to be released in October, stars Peter Corp Dyrendal and Prissana Kampusiri in the lead roles.
