"In the curia there are holy people, really, there are holy people. But there is also a stream of corruption, there is that as well, it is true," Francis was quoted as saying by Reflexion Liberacion.
"There is talk about a 'gay lobby' and it is true, it is there ...we have to see what we can do," the website said, adding the pontiff made the remarks during a June 6 meeting with the Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Religious people (CLAR).
Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said he had "no comment to make about the contents of the conversation" between the pope and CLAR because it was "a meeting of a private nature".
CLAR said it "deeply regrets" the leak, and stressed that what was published was only "a summary" of what was said during a question-and-answer session with Francis.
"It is clear that, on this basis, the singular expressions contained in the text cannot be attributed to the Holy Father with certainty, but only their general sense," the organisation said.//DPA
