Myanmar bans Time magazine issue on 'Buddhist Terror'

Yangon - The Myanmar government on Wednesday banned Time magazine's "Buddhist terror" cover story on extremist monk Wirathu, author of anti-Muslim campaigns in the country.
"The article entitled 'The Face of Buddhist Terror' in the magazine's July issue is prohibited from being produced, sold or distributed in original copy or photocopy in order to prevent further racial and religious conflicts," the state's Emergency Management Committee said in a statement.
The inter-ministerial committee, responsible for controlling rising sectarian violence in the country, said the Time story could be detrimental to building trust between Buddhists and Muslims.
"If we distribute this magazine, it will raise tensions and might instigate more incidents," said Ye Htut, a member of the committee.//DPA
