Vitit set to file 3 lawsuits against Pradit, GPO board and Cabinet

Former Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) director Vitit Uttavachakul will next week sue Public Health Minister Pradit Sinthawanarong and the GPO board for Bt31 million in compensation. He will also file lawsuits against them in the Administrati

“To protect the country’s pharmaceutical system, the GPO and working people’s dignity, I will next week file lawsuits against the GPO Board, the public health minister and the Cabinet via the Administration Court, the Criminal Court and the Civil Court – the latter for a Bt31-millon compensation. These lawsuits could serve as an example for fighting against the misuse of state authority,” he explained.
Vitit said he had been in the civil service for more than 30 years and had spent another six years developing the GPO until it became a profit-making enterprise and stabilised the country’s medical security. Hence, he said, it was not fair that he was being bullied and tarnished by some immature fame-seeking politicians and former officials. He said he would do what he can for truth to be known.
Vitit, his legal advisory team, members of the GPO labour union and the Health Network for Justice resolved in a meeting yesterday that they had enough evidence to file a lawsuit at the Administration Court demanding that the Cabinet resolution be revoked and a temporary injunction be put on it.
They have also got enough evidence to file a lawsuit in Criminal Court against Pradit and the GPO board’s president Pipat Yingseri’s for alleged authority abuse and libel, they said.
They will also take their case to the Civil Court for monetary compensation.
Meanwhile, the Rural Doctors’ Society issued a statement slamming Pradit for failing to follow up on the June 6 resolution, which requires the minister to set up a panel to investigate the tarnishing of GPO’s image and the alleged unjust removal of Vitit from his top post.
