Morsi under house arrest in Republican Guard headquarters

Cairo - Ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi was under house arrest early Thursday in the headquarters of the Republican Guard, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Gehad El-Haddad said.
"The entire presidential team has been arrested. They're ramping through an arrest list of more than 300 names," El-Haddad told dpa.
El-Haddad said he and thousands of other pro-Morsi demonstrators were surrounded by troops at their protest site in Cairo's Madinat Nasr suburb and no-one was being allowed leave or enter.
"This is the retaliation of the old regime. The presence of opposition figures like ElBaradei at the announcement (of Morsi's ouster) is just whitewash for this phase of the campaign to protect the old regime from the new democracy," he said.//DPA
