Germany honours former envoy

On Wednesday, the Charge d'Affaires of the German Embassy, Dr Ingo Winkelmann, bestowed the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany upon former Thai ambassador to Germany Charivat Santaputra.
Charivat received the decoration for his contributions to Thai-German relations, especially during his tenure as ambassador of Thailand to Germany from 2009 to 2012.
“You have been a staunch friend of Germany, an ever-helpful point of contact, and an untiring motor of Thai-German relations”, Dr Winkelmann said in the bestowment ceremony.
During Charivat’s distinguished diplomatic career he served as ambassador to Egypt, Kenya, Germany and other nations, as well as deputy permanent secretary of the Foreign Ministry.
