Foreigners had a hand in Thaksin death-threat clip: Pracha

Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnog on Monday held anti-government groups, both Thai and foreigners members, responsible for a YouTube clip in which a death threat was issued against ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra by a man dressed to look like a terrorist.

Pracha refused to reveal the nationality of the suspected foreigners, saying it could damage bilateral relations, though he insisted they did not come from Malaysia. Meanwhile, intelligence officials have obtained information identifying the three men in the clip, two of whom had their faces covered and were armed with assault rifles.
He said police would first check with intelligence community sources in several countries before deciding whether to prosecute those featured in the clip, especially since one of the men revealed his face.
Pracha said he would inspect operations in the deep South on Wednesday ahead of Malaysian PM Najib Razak’s visit on Saturday. Najib is scheduled to participate in an iftar or fast-breaking ceremony in Narathiwat.
Ahmad Somboon Buluang, an independent academic, said the locals were unhappy that this clip was posted just when the peace process was beginning to make some progress.
Meanwhile, Aziz Benhawan, a member of the Thai delegation negotiating peace with the insurgency group, Barisan Revolusi Nasional, said he doubted the authenticity of the clip and condemned the producers saying they brought the enemy into their home and held people in the South hostage for their own vested interests.
