SET's YTD gain only 2.24% in July

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index lost nearly 2 per cent in July, due mainly to fears of quantitative easing tapering in the US.

Data from the exchange showed that the market underwent grave volatility in the month. Aside from the QE-related concerns, the market was also under pressure of intensifying political instability at home.
At the end of July, the index closed at 1,423.14 points, down 1.98 per cent from the previous month. However, it remained 2.24 per cent higher from the end of last year. Average daily turnover was Bt45.9 billion, down by 27.15 per cent from the previous month.
After three months of net-sells, foreign investors returned to be net-buyers again in the month. The net-buy volume was however small, at only Bt603 million.
