Muslim policewomen in uniform might soon be allowed to wear the hijab, Pol Gen Jate Mongkolhutthi, who chairs a committee reviewing the request, announced yesterday.

“The next step would be to ask the national police chief to consider this issue,” he said.
He said the requests for policewomen to be allowed to wear the Muslim head covering came via MPs and Pattani’s Islamic Central Committee.
“The hijab should be the same colour as the uniform – khaki,” Jate said.
A survey of some 100 Muslim policewomen showed that up to 60 wanted to wear the hijab.
