Athapol named attorney-general

Athapol Yaisawang was named the new attorney-general after an hour-long closed-door meeting of senators yesterday.

Chuchai Lertpongadisorn, Chiang Mai senator and chairman of the Senate committee charged with scrutinising the conduct and profiles of the nominees, provided a summary to the Senate before the closed-door meeting. The Senate then held a secret ballot in which Athapol won 137 votes, with one abstention.
The new attorney-general’s name will be presented for royal endorsement soon.
