Senate expected to pass Bt2-tn bill in first reading Tuesday night

Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanij Tuesday expressed confidence that the Bt2-trillion borrowing bill would clear the first reading in upper chamber Tuesday night.

The Senate began the second day of the first reading of the bill, which would empower the Finance Ministry to borrow Bt2 trillion in loans to finance transport infrastructure development, at 10:30 am.
Nikom said he believed the Senate would approve the bill in the first reading at night and a 27-member panel would be formed to vet the bill in 30 days.
During the debate, elected senators clearly supported the bill while appointed senators expressed concern that the loans would cause debt burden to Thais in the future.
