US announces global initiative to boost entrepreneurs

Kuala Lumpur - US Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday announced an initiative to provide assistance and guidance to entrepreneurs around the world.

"It will connect entrepreneurs with mentors who can show them the ropes," he told more than 4,000 budding business leaders gathered fora two-day meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Kerry, representing US President Barack Obama who cancelled his trip to South-East Asia following a partial government shutdown in Washington, said the initiative would be led by Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker.

Kerry said the US State Department, in collaboration with non-government organisation UP Global, would also set up a programme to provide training to 500,000 budding entrepreneurs around the world.//DPA
