Thammasat lecturers, staff, students show force

Some 5,000 lecturers, staff and students of Thammasat University marched from their Tha Phachan campus to the United Nations office on Rajdamnoen Road to show their opposition to the amnesty bill.

They started gathering on the campus lawn at 8am and began to march at 10.40 am towards the UN office in a statement to the international community of their opposition.
The Thammasat demonstrators later tried to make their way to the Parliament to submit their letter to Deputy Senate Speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai to present their letter calling on senators to reject the bill. However, they were stopped by police manning Rajdameon Road at the Makkawan Bridge.
Learning of the demonstration, Surachai came to receive the letter in front of the United Nations office.
Surachai promised to inform senators of the call by the Thammasat community and promised he would not let them down.
The demonstrators dispersed after submitting the letter.
