Suthep's panel cannot resolve current conflict, academics say

Chulalongkorn University's political scientist Trakul Mechai said the People's Democratic Reform Committee set up by anti-government group led by former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban itself could not bring national reform as it did not reduce the curren

“A national reform can occur only after the [political protest] ends. The real reform committee might be another group comprising of academics who did not go on stage [with the PDRC]. I think seizure of government agencies is just a symbolic measure to finalise the fight,” he said.
Trakul said the government must review its role and should not be stubborn. Otherwise, confrontation might occur.
Meanwhile, former Ramkhamhaeng University dean Assadang Panikabutra said Suthep’s plan was only prolonging the anti-government protest. The people’s council he announced to set up was not approved by the law.
Political Science Association of Kasetsart University yesterday issued a statement calling on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to submit a motion for a House-Senate joint sitting to find solutions to the current political conflicts. Meanwhile, the people should gather names to initiate a charter rewrite.
