Heavy dust in North

The North has been suffering from fine-particle dust above safety standards, though the South remains unaffected by smoke from Indonesian forest fires, at less than 60 micrograms per cubic metre, Pollution Control Department director-general Wichien Jungr

In an analysis of the North’s ambient air quality for 24-hour average of PM-10 dust, Phrae recorded the highest amount at 164 micrograms per cubic metre, way beyond the safety limit of 120mcg, he said. Lampang’s Muang district reported 154mcg per cubic metre and Mae Mo district 142, while Nan province reported 137mcg and Phayao province 139, he added.
