Old palace to be refurbished

The Fine Arts Department will refurbish the 109-year-old Phraya Ra-ngae Palace in Narathiwat's Muang district in order to make it a national heritage building.

Culture Ministry official Usanee Thuwachote yesterday led fellow officials and the five descendants linked to the palace on an inspection tour of the building, which is in tambon Bang Nak.

The palace, which has sustained substantial deterioration, is made of ironwood. People are barred from entering it to prevent further damage and possible injury. The owners of the palace donated it to the state.
