Prayut instructs Defence Ministry to follow up on South situation

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said yesterday that he has tasked Deputy PM and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and Deputy Defence Minister General Udomdech Sitabutr with following up on operations in the restive South next week.

When asked about whether the negotiation team would attend a peace dialogue with separatists, Prayut said he would have to discuss the matter with the Malaysian leader and will speak to those with differing opinions first. He went on to say that everything would be done according to international standards. Prayut added that he believed the situation in the South had started improving, as the Organisation of the Islamic Co-operation understood the state of affairs better.
