Tech-savvy courts order more electronic bracelets

Thai authorities plan to use 7,000 electronic angle bracelets on petty crime convicts in 27 jurisdictions nationwide.

Probation Department chief Kannika Saengthong and Bangkok’s Don Muang Court chief judge Dusit Phadungsak Wednesday signed an agreement for IT system development so court orders could be submitted in electronic files to speed the process. Kannika said this tech-savvy court model would later expand to other courts and agencies.
Kannika said the department had also ordered more angle bracelets at Bt70 million, to be used by year’s end.
So far 257 convicts are on probation nationwide after being ordered to wear electronic angle bracelets –162 of whom were drunk driving offenders.
