The parents, accompanied by lawyer Suthat Ngernmeun and the Laotian Ambassador’s first secretary Ponsri Boonmeesai, submitted a petition to NHRC member Niran Pitakwatchara, also chairman of the NHRC’s sub-commission on civil and political rights.
Ponsri said that this case received attention from both countries and the relatives feared the death, initially ruled as accident, may be murder because of suspicious finger-shaped bruises on her arm and the alleged hasty procedure to get her cremated, but the investigation then stalled. Niran thanked the family for their trust in the NHRC, and said it would soon proceed on a fact-finding probe and invite related agencies to give information.
