Prayut says water management plan should start taking effect next year

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the comprehensive water management plan should come up with effective measures to prevent flooding and drought next year.

He said the management system should prevent both drought and flooding starting next year. However, the plan will be first implemented in selective areas.

“Flood-prone areas shall not experience excessive water while drought-prone areas shall have sufficient amount of water for consumption,” Prayut said in his pre-recorded weekly TV programme aired Friday night.

“However, it is not possible to prevent floods or drought in every corner as doing so could take 10 or more years and a very large amount of budget is also required. What we can do now is help those people who are in desperate need.”
