Theerapat said the department had gathered a list of land encroachment’s biggest cases in order to seize assets, targeting businessmen who had encroached on the national parks.
He said the regulations on seizing assets applied by the NACC had been submitted recently with the department in the case of the Baan Talay Mok Resort, in Prachinburi province.
He said the department had issued four major targeted areas to tackle land encroachment: on land targeted for resort-making, land over which charges had already been filed and was overdue for hearing, land that had been encroached on since 2002, and forests whose value had to be determined.
The new Khao Laem National Park chief, Taywin Meesap, said the DNP planned to apply the NACC’s regulation models, to seize assets from 44 resorts which had encroached upon Wang Nam Khiao National Park in Nakhon Ratchasrima province.
Meanwhile, the president of Wang Nam Khiao Tourism Promotion Club said that filing the charges against these 44 resorts had not impacted the tourism sector in Wang Nam Kiew district.
“Tourists still travel in the district as usual as they understood that the land encroachment cases were old ones,” he said
