EC to rule who pays for election strife

The Election Commission will decide at the end of January next year who it will sue for the Bt3 billion it cost to stage the February 2 election, which was later ruled to be invalid, EC member Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said yesterday.

Somchai said the damage would be classified in two parts: damage to assets such as buildings, cars and equipment, and damage from the expense of holding a general election - which was Bt3 billion.
He said the EC would study the Constitutional Court verdict to decide who caused the election to be nullified. He said all five EC members would resolve how many people are involved and who should face legal action.
