PM wants Thais to be united as a gift to him

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday called on Thai people to transcend political conflicts, build a strong nation and reduce social inequity as a gift to him.

He made this remark when he joined journalists at a New Year’s celebration at the Reporters Room inside Government House yesterday and handed each of them a Buddhist amulet.
The prime minister and junta leader was in a good mood as he joked with reporters, sang songs and even ate sticky rice with his fingers before saying the journalists could address him as “older brother” – but only for a day.
He also apologised for any unintended transgressions and admitted that sometimes it was difficult for him to hold his temper.
“I wish you all happiness. I ask for forgiveness if I have offended anybody.
“Please forgive and forget so we can start anew in the new year,” he said, adding that he was not worried if the media scrutinised his every step.
Prayut also took advantage of the jovial mood to insist that he was here for the good of the country, adding that he was dedicated to Thailand and Thai people, otherwise he would not have done what he did. He seized power form the elected government in May.
