CDC slams PDRC on stance

Kamnoon Sidhisamarn, a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC), yesterday expressed dismay at the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC)'s slamming the door on a non-elected prime minister, saying it flew in the face of historical precede

During an interview with MCOT last weekend, PDRC spokesman Akanat Promphan said allowing an “outsider” to assume premiership, as proposed by the CDC, could put the country at graver risk and open up more room for corruption.
This shift in the PDRC’s stance on the issue led Kamnoon to go public with his perspective. In a statement on Facebook, he tried to remind Akanat of the political situation before the military coups of May 2014 and September 2006.
At those times, the political impasse was the sole ground for protesters to call for an impartial person to run the country – a possibility allowed by Article 7 of the Constitution of 2007, he wrote.
The open clause concerning the prime minister’s credentials would give the country more room to manoeuvre in case of a political deadlock, he said.
Stupefied by the PDRC’s reversal, Kamnoon emphasised the necessity to review the political context.
He has sent a strong message to Akanat to revisit the PDRC’s arguments during its rally against the elected government of Yingluck Shinawatra.
“If he found out the truth, he would realise that in certain circumstances there could be a need for a non-elected PM.
“And would those political stalemates no longer be seen in the near future?” he posted.
