Aid proposed for families in difficulty with babies

The Cabinet will next week consider a child-care subsidy for cash-strapped families with babies. "I will propose the project to the Cabinet at its upcoming meeting [on Tuesday]," Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yutthawong said yesterday.

He said the budget for the plan would not exceed Bt1 billion and it would be implemented on a one-year trial basis. “We will monitor the results from the first year of implementation. If they are good, then we will extend the project,” Yongyuth said. He said that if the project got the green light, it would be implemented at the start of the next fiscal year on October 1.
