BMA to paint more white zigzags for pedestrian safety

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to paint white zigzag lines on more Bangkok roads to protect pedestrians.

It has introduced this new measure at Din Sor and Asoke Montri roads and around the BMA at the Giant Swing to ensure safety of pedestrians crossing heavy traffic roads at zebra crossings.
BMA Traffic and Transportation Office executive Suthon Anakul said city workers would paint the white zigzag lines in front of schools, Thanya Shopping Park in the Srinakarin area and they would co-ordinate with the Metropolitan Police to enforce a speed limit of 50kmh around the Giant Swing. The white zigzag lines are painted 15 metres from the zebra crossing to warn drivers to slow down.
The move follows the death of a TV staff member of a GMM Grammy company last month. Walking on a zebra crossing, she was hit by a mini-truck that police said ran a red light on Asoke Road just outside her office.
