The meeting for reassignments – presided over by permanent secretary Pol General Chatchawal Suksomjit – had staff members sign up for new jobs. Some offices receiving overwhelming attention resorted to a draw. The Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission offered only eight positions but 28 staff members applied.
A source at the ministry said that such an unprecedented method could spur legal challenges, as regulations require an agency executive to make a decision on who should be getting the job.
The ministry disbanded the unit last week due to a lack of clear responsibilities and the absence of regulations when it was set up under the Abhisit government.
