“We smell a strong odour from time to time and it causes nausea and eye irritation,” Manee Pan-udom said yesterday. She filed a petition on behalf of the local residents with a government complaints-receiving centre.
The petition was signed by 54 people who have been affected by the alleged emissions.
Jongrak Petchson, an official at the complaint centre, said the two factories had previously been slapped with closure orders earlier due to odour and wastewater problems.
“We will investigate further,” he said.
Manee added that she hoped the authorities would check the wastewater treatment system of these two factories to ensure they comply with the law.
“In addition to the bad odour we have to deal with, we have also found that most of our electrical appliances at home are rusting up,” she said.
She added that local residents had lodged complaints with the authorities twice before but the problem had not been solved.
